definitely, that's where you can define anything about the drives and partitions on your system, from permissions to names, and everything else.
You see, I have no clue how Linux Mint settings manages drives, but I know how to use fstab and so I don't even care which distro I'm using anymore. Have a look here for fstab:

I'm sure that if I was to set up a workstation with access to many drives I'd use fstab to make sure everything worked as intended.
