I genuinely hope that #Burnham is playing it safe just on the basis of the constituency that he’s trying to win…#Makerfield demographics are tilted towards Leave, white and boomers.
If he wins, challenges Starmer and wins again, he knows that he will have a huge amount of political capital that he will need to use quickly and wisely. It’s a mandate for doing the opposite of #Starmer ‘s slow, steady, pro #Israel, #LabourTogether approach.
That change cannot be delivered with current Cabinet.
