I don't know if they've isolated a cause yet. It's likely environmental but it's been around for a long time, before it had a name, so iclt could just be a deviation in our cellular makeup. Autism is sometimes caused by a breakdown in cellular stability caused by age of the cells (read egg). Down syndrome can have a similar cause. Typically, the older the mother, the more likely these issues are to happen.
