Individual Catholics may not idol worship (they usually claim not to, but actually do) though "The Church" teaches that it's good to idol worship. The official church doctrine is that Mary is "Co-redemtrix" which is just straight blasphemy. Elevating a (I'm some cases VERY) sinful man to Pipe status is blasphemy. They're "born" into and brainwashed from birth to think "it's okay", but it's really not.
