Yeah I've beaten this drum before but I think Mastodon, as the largest (de-facto) decentralized social media protocol, is key here.
Honestly for *most* people who (aren't far-Right and) want to leave legacy social media, Mastodon is probably the best choice. Nostr's just too small and technically demanding for large scale adoption at the moment.
But in the long term, permissionless monetization is what will pull people here... Once the network gets to a certain size, influencer types will be able to make more money here with zaps than Elon's "affiliate" program or any other centralized platform.
In the meantime we can (and should) interoperate with Mastodon while that network grows.
