I live in a town that had one of the only interracial communes before the Civil War, a center of Garrisonian abolition, a major stop on the Underground Railroad, and the home of some noted Black organizers and speakers. Not everyone needs to be absolved. The demand that everyone be considered equally guilty is just designed to ease the feelings of the people who really are guilty, not in the past but now.
