Part of the enduring gender pay gap is the result of the plight of new mothers; many would like to return to work but are stymied in that aspiration by employers 'unreasonable' refusal to allow flexible working (to fit in with childcare).

As Maternity Action argue the maximum compensation available through employment tribunals for 'unreasonable' refusal (under the new employment rights legislation) still remains too low to shift the dial on this problem!
