I love gritty noir. Space opera always has its place but cyberpunk tends to be my preferred sci fi genre (right up there with technothrillers a la Daniel Suarez). I think it's why despite a lot of groaning I found Picard a pretty decent show despite having an entirely different approach than any other Star Trek endeavor.
Honestly reading a description and seeing the noir detective stuff is what made me give it a shot.
