coal mines kill small numbers of people all the time, and pollution from burning coal both leads to deaths from respiratory disease and contributes to the heating of the planet. But a coal mine accident in #Ukraine won't spread poison across northern Europe, or leave sheep grazed on Scottish hills unfit for human consumption for five years.

These are incommensurable risks. Yes, nuclear accidents are rare, and that's good; but when they happen, they have enormous consequences.
