The back story is my mum wanted a gift for her 70th and explicitly asked me for some art of mine. She didnāt even mind if it was āoldā art. But I couldnāt exactly give her a rough sketchbook page.
She had been such a great supporter of my undergrad zoology degree (2020-2024), even coming with me on a muddy December afternoon to traipse round a new local beaver enclosure. I had chosen to do a mini dissertation about beaver ecology and created my own field trip. My mum tried to memorise all the facts about beavers while we were there! Her enthusiasm fed into mine and I ended up doing some of my best work and winning an academic prize for it in the process. So I HAD to draw a beaver for her!
