I'm getting ready to plant tomatoes in about ten days. It's been cold up here (until yesterday), and my local garden center recommended holding off for a while.
I picked up a raised bed that's 4x3". Open on the bottom so the worms can get in. I'll put chicken wire on the top to protect the plants if I need to. The whole thing was rather more expensive than I expected, but I'm hoping it will be worth it.
Tomatoes, marigolds, basil, and garlic; mostly tomatoes, though. Speaking of which, what kind of tomatoes are you going to grow?
My son wants to plant potatoes as well, separately. I just priced half-barrels at the garden center. They're over $100 each! Is that insane? I'm temped to just buy a big plastic crate for $10 and go with that. They say you can even use cardboard boxes, but I don't think my landlord would allow that.
