My advice would be to start by looking for the government agencies and NGOs who are most active in BC. Attend events they sponsor and meet the people who are working on issues in BC. Those folks are the keys, not the organizations.
The Land Conservancy of BC has their annual meeting on 28 September in Cordova Bay. That might be a good place to start making connections and finding out what the needs are and who is doing what.
Finding the people will also help you figure out what additional education and training you will need to really make a difference. Best of luck! The planet needs all of us working on conservation.
