Imo judge only is not the answer. There were Diplock Courts in Northern Ireland during the Troubles. A lot of innocent people got lengthy spells in jail then. Perhaps streamlining courts so there are specially trained prosecutors and judges for assault, rape and stalking cases and they are seen within (say) 15 months. Shoplifting and minor drug offences or minor public offences like urination, littering, alcohol in another specialised court: etc. there needs to be more courts and more judges and longer hours. This happens in other countries. The only winners in long delays are the perpetrators, never their victims. Making courts judge only suits authoritarian government like this Labour administration: it is a betrayal of our (admittedly imperfect) judicial system which requires a jury.
