Thatcher destroyed 75% of the country for the short term benefit of the 25% in London, SE England and East Anglia.
Her policies did however increase private car ownership for those who could afford it (and even second and third cars for some families).
It is *this* that many folk don't want to give up and will openly support fascism / authoritarianism to keep (including the current popularity of Reform, many of them aren't even full on bigots but more paranoid about a full ban on petrol/diesel cars (not just a ban on sale of new cars with fossil fuel engines making driving inconvenient or even unaffordable..
