The more I think about it, the more I have to wonder: why do we even allow companies and governments to ask us about our “sex” or “gender”? Why is that something valid for them to ask us? Why would they need to know, unless they plan to use the information to discriminate against us? I am a person, a citizen of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and a citizen of the former United States of America. I’ll share my birthdate and place, and my parents birthplaces and citizenship status, as those are legitimate things they need to know to establish my citizenship.
Sex and gender questions though should be in the optional part of any form along with ethnicity, national origin, and race.
