Because AoE1 is so popular in Vietnam, but is also a dated game that Microsoft can't use to sell infinite expansions for, they made an expansion for AoE2 to "port" AoE1 into it, plus adding Vietnam to the game, in hopes that the Vietnamese would stop playing AoE1 and start playing AoE2. So, basically, the same shit that the developer was mentioning.
