Obviously with the above about piercings & "alternative" looks you could cite instances where that is NOT TRUE AT ALL. They are sometimes part of very aggressively "white" subcultures.
Different contexts get different results. But when I am presenting myself with short hair & a septum piercing, what I am NOT doing is performing "white femininity".
Which is also not to say that appearing "feminine" is morally bad. This just happens to be one potential way I can signal my refusal to participate.
