In the last decade the UK built 24 new miles of motorway (despite improved accuracy of mapping adding 65 miles to the official total).

Given this is dwarfed by many European countries that have added thousands of miles of extra motorways, the FT presents this as bad news.

But, as we know building new roads doesn't relieve traffic, but just creates more usage, perhaps this small increase in motorways is actually a good thing?

Pubic transport is a better bet for the climate!
