One of the few things that still gives me hope that this country will survive... when I go to the VA and there is a WW2 vet there (typically in a wheelchair with an entourage of nurses and attendants since the few that are left are pushing 100 now) we all stand at attention while they pass through the room. There is massive respect among veterans for the guys that actually went and fought the Nazis.
