Derek Ross (npub18am…p424) can tell that Bitchat is a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) mesh chat protocol by Jack Dorsey. No internet, no servers, no accounts. Your phone (or laptop) advertises over BLE, finds other Bitchat devices in range, relays their packets, and you chat in a public #mesh channel. Messages are signed (Ed25519) but not encrypted in the public channel. Range is whatever BLE gives you: a few meters, maybe 100 m outdoors with a good antenna.
