i think you agree in this regard with @hunter0one and @mischievoustomato@tsundere.love but i vehemently disagree. systemd, wayland, etc. are symptoms of a very deep rot.
for example i use openrc. it works. i don't need anything more complicated.
if you want Muh Peak Corporate Design you can install RHEGS (Red Hat Enterprise GNU/SystemD) or LibreSUSE. why not? oh you don't need half the nonsense in them? oh you're afraid there's too much surface area to attack you? boo hoo.
