People think doing what everyone else is doing is “safe” because, well, everyone else is doing it. It doesn’t require work above and beyond mimicry.
True enlightenment comes from walking alone with God, the universe, the Divine, or whatever you call it. It takes real work that some people won’t do in this lifetime. It also takes courage, since society tends to discourage non-conformity.
