i escaped in 2023, i don’t have to care anymore -- even though i obviously do on some level yet. many of my friends have also moved away, and others either plan to or don't want to leave their families etc. it’s all tech bros and money now and nobody can afford to live there or have a retail space either. so lifelong natives have leave because even if their homes are paid for, they can't afford the ridiculous property taxes.
