It would appear that, after the 4.4 update, alt text no longer appears automatically on mouseover of an image, which I was initially annoyed by, but it now shows up if you click on the little ALT symbol AND YOU CAN SELECT AND COPY FROM IT!!!
This is all in the standard web interface using Firefox so maybe you could before but I couldn't, and now I can.
