It's a little embarrassing for ants that you can tell what they have been eating if they have eaten enough of it. If the gaster is white, it was probably protein such as fruit flies or other bugs... clear means they have been drinking nectar.
I wonder if they try to stick to one kind of food so they don't end up getting mixed together in their social stomach?
