Corporations are an evolved organism-like entity (a multiple-meme thing, like a multicellular organism, "meme" in the Richard Dawkins sense). Such entities show a lot of organism-like behavior (e.g., immune systems) and often have long lifespans (cf. Roman Catholic church). Just as organisms can fall prey to parasites that evade the immune system and kill the organism, so can corporations.
