I think it was the engineering of feelings using empathy. It has the intent of selling you a product that originated from someone else, and investor who started a business, found marketing people to come up with target market, perfume designers that found the combination of smells that will evoke that same feeling and came to the designer for a bottle to convey it through the container. So intent doesn't explain it.
İn short, an artist will make their art without a demand or appreciation. A designer intends to solve a defined problem (which may just be selling an item).
