I'm assuming you mean the #PalestineAction protests. The police objective is to arrest lawbreakers with minimum risk and cost. Photographing the PA protesters for later arrest would cost a lot more. Unlike the fascists the PA protesters *wanted* to be arrested to demonstrate the absurdity of the law. This is best considered as a scripted performance performed for the media by the police and protesters, both acting to send their chosen messages.
