It's a very interesting theory that we're actually living in the wake of a major cataclysm sometime in the past 2 centuries.
Interestingly there is some scattered evidence of this both material and textual here in the USA as well.
For instance I read references from local writers about extremely dry years and catastrophic fires in cities, from rural dwellers in the 19th century.
And I also find ruins scattered all over the US mainland, from the northern reaches of Minnesota to the hills of Arkansas, and as far out west as Colorado or Utah (about the limits of my driving exploration so far).
A few years ago when we were settling my grandmother's estate which had been in limbo since Covid when she died, I came across some pictures of my great-great-great grandfather (!!!) wandering in the American Southwest[1] in the 19th century on donkeys and it looked completely deserted.
Just some interesting data.
[1]- this became something of a family tradition with every generation up to my grandparents wandering in that region for extended periods.
