We're about to have our god damn joker moment over the modern music landscape. So many things have gone wrong that it got us considering throwing everything away and just using the Nintendo 3DS Sound app like god intended

- Apple Music decided to lie to us and serve us "lossless" music that was, in fact, clearly not lossless. There were fucking compression artifacts that were *audible* in the high-end

- We spent several fucking *days* fixing our LastFM metadata just for it to ignore all of our corrections

- While we were drafting our vent posts about that, it *scrobbled the same song twice* -- with *DIFFERENT METADATA FOR EACH SCROBBLE*

- our Apple Music 'heavy rotation' mix has decided that song we listened to a total of three times in the past week was somehow in our 'heavy rotation'

the modern music landscape fucking sucks and i hate it. we let music streaming take over and now there's no easy way to transfer music from Device A to Device B because we tried to make everything cloud-based and server-side, so now the entire act of listening to music is practically gate-kept by a single company majority-owned by major record labels that hasn't turned a profit in 18 years and every other service is trying to copy just to fucking compete with it

lastfm and statsfm and airbuds and spotify wrapped and other services like letterboxd and anilist have done nothing but make the act of enjoying music - or any other type of fucking *art* - a competitive fucking sport where you can't listen to something genuinely without either worrying about how your stats are counted or whether people will judge you for your tastes

all we can do is either suck it up or rebel in our own little ways that get shittier and harder as time goes on while we fucking suffer and die and everything there is to love gets eaten up by corporate interests
