I think polls don't mean what the media report them to mean.
Rather than support for one idea/candidate or another polls are really tests of media influence. And the media feed off the self fulfilling prophecies they test.
In order to make them mean more, each poll needs to have a question about where the respondent gets their information and then statistically stripped based on that media bias to arrive at any semblance of accuracy about then purported topic …
