In my case, the thing I am printing would not need to be glued to anything else. It just seems that the sanding part may be related to "priming the surface"? Not sure which grit I need to use in that case.

When I vapor bathe something printed in ABS, it helps with a glossy smooth surface, free from the printing artifacts. So, I question if I can print the item I want, than do the vaporbath ...and then hopefully be able to paint after that.
