(2) Levels of organization:
A world in which beings like us can exist and evolve needs to be messy enough to allow for an open-ended future, but also needs to be structured and layered, so we can make predictions and test them through our actions. This is not only how science works, but how all organisms get to know their world.
Levels are not just figments of our imagination. They arise from our interaction with the world, and are therefore ontologically real.
