The violence is already here. We didn't bring it.

This is exactly like being in an abusive relationship-- that's what it is, that's who is responsible and how it works: abusive bullies cornering victims and forcing us to take care of their needs on pain of retaliation if we misbehave. What does it take, to make an abuser stop? We're SUPPOSED to be able to call the cops, right? That's violence in of itself. And the trouble is, the cops work for our abusers. So, what do you do when you're being abused and the cops are only making it worse instead of helping? And you can't just leave, because the abusers own the place-- and the next place and the next place and the government, and world really.

What's happening in Gaza and Lebanon, Syria and Afghanistan and Libya etc etc etc will keep spreading unless it's stopped. We're up against people who think torture is justified, war profiteering is cool, and double-tap bombing paramedics is fine. Think we can just talk them out of it if we're very persuasive?

Keep in mind also that sometimes when people talk about pacifism and nonviolence, some are including property damage in their calculations and some aren't.

It's very difficult for people to agree on where to draw the line, what qualifies as self-defense. When IS it finally time to club your abuser over the head with that chair? We don't want to. We really don't. But are we going to sit and watch our kids be raised in a lifestyle that will turn them into the next generation that will continue the cycle of abuse?

The more I learn about history, the more I figure people should've probably freaked out and fought back a lot harder, a lot earlier.
