I know there is a lot of nuance in the statement but what I am focusing in on is if, for example you are a Christian then that tradition has a well defined eschatology (end times) narrative that has no room for all of humanity being wiped out by agent swarms. There is a generally accepted and well defined narrative in place where a certain sequence of events will take place. All of humanity is not wiped out in an agentic accident. The same is true for Islam and the Jewish traditions. If however you do not belong to a faith or spiritual tradition that has a framework of thinking around consciousness, death and the end of the world then you are likely a materialist, a physicalist and or an atheist. That way it is possible to adopt a narrative of an apocalypse without a god.

In regards to evil stuff going on, I have no doubt that you are right. I think that is a different topic than the % possibility that all humans die at the hands of an AI initiated apocalypse. 🙂
