a fun description I've heard of the phrase "political" is that it mostly describes things people disagree on.

like, if you say "Nazis are bad", that's not a political statement. that's just true. everyone agrees on this.

conversely, if you say "Nazis are good", that's also not a political statement. it's just false. maybe you're a troll, baiting a reaction. but we all know you're just lying.... right?

sidenote: when techbros are all like "no politics in foss", they mean "nothing disagreeable" in exactly the way I've just described. only that they think their opinion is universal. when they accept fascist contributors with open arms they *genuinely believe that's uncontroversial*, based on the merit of those contributions. they're not lying to you when they say they don't want politics in their project. they just disagree with you about what things count as political.

my only gripe with this example is that I've heard it many years ago and... somehow it's aged poorly. there are honest to goodness nazis working for the US government at this moment, getting paid to beat up brown people, and they're not even hiding it.

"Nazis are bad" and "Nazis are good" are no longer apolitical statements. Somehow this is up for debate now.

Why is this subjective now.

What the fuck has this world come to.
