So yeah, pardon my skepticism that—even putting ethnicity issues aside—Matt Damon is capable of embodying the character of Odysseus.
Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it's the greatest performance of his career.
But come on.
The character of Odysseus IS the Odyssey. If you actually want to do a high-minded adaptation, it would require an absolutely magnetic performance from someone.
