yeah, the weird thing is that my distro hasn't changed and the soft/hard limits are still set to very low defaults for security reasons, because the only time I go over the limit is large compiles

but actually I can't find the documentation note about increasing the file limits anymore, so maybe they fixed this in the build process for me instead of requiring a file limit increase from users tbh
