When you say "compulsory schooling" do you mean being forced to go to school at all? Because that serves a *VERY* important purpose. At least basic education is an absolute must for a society to actually improve instead of devolving into the kinds of issues from the dark ages. I would argue that the lack of actually *learning* things is a huge part of how my country (America) has gotten where it is today. Everyone is wallowing in willful ignorance, not understanding some pretty basic and very important things because we live in a society that teaches us ignorance (despite good school teachers doing their very best to instill the opposite.)
Basic education is a *must*.
Homework, however, is not.
