What is time of use and why is it so much cheaper?
My energy plan grants me 6 cents per kilowatt hour for 6 hours per night. This is more than enough time to keep my car charged. I charge once per week. But I could charge every night if I wanted to. And since I charge only once a week, realistically, I could "downgrade" to level 1 charging without issue.
I don't need a special circuit. Most people don't.
"Fast" chargers like Electrify America, Ionna, Tesla, etc. tend to be 40 cents or higher. This makes "fueling" your EV about like fueling a sports car.
Though, I did that math before all of the current bullshit. Public fast charging might be more economical now.
But if you can charge at home, it can be way cheaper.
Yeah, it's slow. But while you're sitting on your ass in front of your TV, your car could be charging. While you're honk shooing at night, your car could be charging.
You don't need a time of use energy plan, but it certainly helps.
