While I also love to mock the French, the only reason the British were able to get out of Dunkirk was the brave street-to-street resistance from native French and French colonial Fighters
They slowed and in some places stopped the German advance (blitz) giving the British enough time to flee across the channel, abandoning the French and France to German occupation.
The cowardly perception should be on the British, not the French - but the English love to mock them even though they saved them.
