For some reason, masking tape is sufficient to prevent someone from accidentally turning off the furnace.
My father says he didn't put that tape there. So logically, it must have been there before they moved into the house in 1999. That is clearly not 25 year old tape.
And now you know the depth of my father's mental decline.
