I never got a sense of place or time.

What sort of a place is Ithaca? I don't know, all we ever see is the docks, the palace, & a swineherd's hut. There is no sense of this as a real, living breathing place where the work of human survival goes on.

What sort of place is Troy? It's got big gates & some big buildings that fall over. There is no sense of how large it is either geographically or in population. There is no sense of how these people live.
