That gets at part of why I am so critical of Nolan. Art is one of the best methods available to us to encounter & integrate new or more detailed perspectives. We can see the world through other people's eyes for a moment & they can show us what *they* noticed.

So when I'm watching a film by a supposed auteur, & I can't find anything that is genuinely new or surprising to me, it just makes me feel like something is missing. There's supposed to be input here. There's supposed to be a viewpoint.
