I don't get why you think he had to make some sort of deal where he has to make Smash 6 in order for this game to get made. He's a respected director and he probably has enough pull to just pitch ideas for games he'd be interested in making, I mean they let him work on that Kid Icarus game on the 3DS after that series was dead for like 20 years.
