war machine could totally use methanol/ethanol like chemicals if you really do not want to use batteries. Those could be created using renewables.
But large batteries can also be used for vehicles, give them solar panels, they can recharge in the field in the case supply lines break down (try that with fossil fuels)
Tanks are outdated, future is artillery + low range battery drones + long range fueled drones for battlefields
