Lightning some distance away, but the wet sand typical of Assynt transmits the electrical energy pretty effortlessly. When that hit the earthing spike, our #offgrid power went down, safely caught by the RCD units, which needed resetting.
But as usual, it's blown the ADSL router. Lightning current delights in using BT's ancient cables to cause havoc. We have a spare, so we're back up and running.
It's ironic that "official" infrastructure can't handle these events, when our DIY home power does.
