it sounds like you’re concerned about two separate things, the act of passing in a new jam group, and your ability to perform well within it.

I can’t speak to your comfort about the first part (you know your area of residence the best!), but the reason a lot of people join jam groups is to improve as a musician as they go, and chances are anyone you find will understand that. My experience with jams is that people tend towards kindness and constructiveness.
