Fringe physics of the day: Mach's principle claims all motions are relative, even in non-inertial frames - "absolute" effect of fictitious forces due to accelerations and rotations must disappear in empty space, thus making "local physics" a function of other galaxies in the universe. TIL Some fringe physicists actually made serious attempts to create a Machian mechanics. Unfortunately the predicted Machian effects are undetectably small since we can't move or destroy all galaxies, so perhaps they will never be confirmed or falsified.
