A movie involves a large number of creative people, so just because the director is a white man doesn't mean that there can't be significant contributions from actors, set designers, writers, etc. It really ought to be understood as a collaboration.

I hate the "auteur" theory, the idea that there has to be a singular unifying vision from a single person.
